§ Tools · LinkedIn Photo Checker
Check your photo before LinkedIn does.
Drop in your profile photo and get an instant read on resolution, crop, format, and size — then export a clean 800×800 square. Everything runs in your browser; the file never leaves your device.
Your photo never leaves your browser — no uploads, no server, no account.

Five details that make a profile photo work
- Fill the frame — your face should take up about 60% of the photo. Distant full-body shots shrink into unreadable circles.
- Look at the camera. Direct eye contact reads as confident and approachable, even at thumbnail size.
- Keep the background quiet — a plain wall or a soft blur keeps the attention on you.
- Use a recent photo. Showing up to an interview looking nothing like your picture starts things on the wrong foot.
- Face the light — soft daylight from the front beats overhead office lighting every time.
Questions people ask
- What size does a LinkedIn profile photo need to be?
- At least 400×400 pixels, at most 8MB, in JPG or PNG. 800×800 or larger is the sweet spot — LinkedIn scales your photo to several sizes, and a large image stays sharp at all of them.
- Does my photo get uploaded anywhere?
- No. The check, the crop, and the export all happen inside your browser. Nothing is sent to any server — it even works offline.
- Why does the photo need to be square?
- LinkedIn shows a circle cropped from a square. If your image isn’t square, LinkedIn crops it automatically and can wreck the framing — crop it yourself and the framing stays yours.
- My photo is too big or too small — what now?
- Too big: use the export below — the 800×800 JPEG lands far under 8MB. Too small: upscaling only adds blur, so dig up the original or take a new one at higher resolution.
- Can I use an AI-generated headshot on LinkedIn?
- Yes — as long as it genuinely looks like you. LinkedIn doesn’t ban AI photos, but the whole point of a profile photo is being recognized. A retouched stranger costs more than it earns.
