Privacy Policy

Effective October 6, 2026

Rearview is made by Stellandra. It records your drives so you can look back at them. This policy says where those drives live and what, if anything, ever reaches us. It is written against the app, not against a template.

The short version: there is no account and no sign-up. Your drives stay on your iPhone and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud storage. Your drives are never sent to our servers.

No account

Rearview has no sign-in, no email field, and no profile. We never learn your name, email address, or phone number, because the app never asks for them.

Location and motion

To record a drive without you pressing anything, Rearview uses your iPhone's location (including in the background, if you allow "Always") and its motion activity, which tells driving apart from walking and cycling. Both are read and processed on your iPhone. The route, distance, duration, stops and braking counts that come out of them are stored on your iPhone.

No location point, route, or speed reading is sent to us or to any analytics, advertising, or attribution service. Rearview contains none of those services.

Your iCloud

If you are signed in to iCloud, Rearview keeps a backup of your drives in your own private iCloud database, so they can come back on a new iPhone signed in to the same Apple ID. That storage belongs to your Apple ID and counts toward your iCloud quota. We cannot see it, read it, or export it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's privacy policy.

If iCloud is off, your drives exist only on this iPhone, and deleting the app deletes them.

Maps

Routes are drawn on Apple Maps (MapKit). Showing a map means your iPhone asks Apple for map tiles for the area on screen; that exchange is between your device and Apple and is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Purchases

Payments go through the App Store. Apple handles your payment details; we never see them. To know whether a purchase unlocked your full history, the app uses RevenueCat, which receives the App Store receipt along with a random identifier the app creates for this purpose. That identifier is not tied to your name or email and is not an advertising identifier. It is what lets "Restore Purchases" bring your unlock back on a new iPhone with the same Apple ID.

Share images

Rearview only shares a drive when you make a share image and send it somewhere yourself. By default the image trims the first and last 300 meters of the route, so it does not point to your home or workplace. Once you send it, it is in the hands of wherever you sent it.

What we do not do

We do not sell your data. We do not run ads. We do not share your driving with insurers, employers, or data brokers. We do not build a profile of how you drive.

Deleting your drives

Delete a single drive from its detail screen, or everything from Settings → Delete all drives. That removes the drives from your iPhone and from your private iCloud backup. Because there is no account, there is nothing on our side to delete.

Children

Rearview is built for drivers. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the higher age your local law sets.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. A version of the app that sends anything new off your iPhone would be a new version, and we will update this page before it ships.
